Do you want more people to follow you back on Instagram? Instagram can be a great tool to help build a thriving community around your brand or business, but I hear lots of complaints from practitioners and
business owners that it’s hard to get more Instagram followers. In this post I’ll show you how to easily increase the number of people who follow you back on this popular social site.
One popular strategy to get more followers on any social site is to follow people yourself. The idea being that someone sees you following them, checks you out, and follows you back in return. This is where so many people run into problems – people don’t follow them back.
But it’s easy to get more people to follow you back on Instagram if you follow a few simple social media best practices.
#1 – Don’t set your profile to private
This is a big no-no when it comes to your Instagram profile. Setting your profile to private means you get to approve each of your followers. They can’t just click to follow you. They have to ask. Which may seem like a good thing, controlling who sees what you post, but if you are on Instagram to promote your business it doesn’t make any sense to limit your audience.
When you follow someone and your profile is set to private, that person can’t see much about you at all. They don’t know who you are or what kind of material you post. There is no reason for them to follow you at all. (Unless they happen to be your Aunt Mary)
#2 – Have a profile picture
A good, complete profile goes a long way when it comes to getting people to follow you back on Instagram.
The most important part of your profile? Your picture!
You have to have a profile picture if you want people to follow you back. This sounds too basic to need mentioning, but I can’t tell you how many new follower notifications I get where the person doesn’t have a picture of themselves or their brand. I usually don’t even click through to look at their profile. I want to see who I am following!
#3 – Start with some content
I know it is exciting playing on Instagram and I know you are anxious to begin building massive amounts of followers. But before you start following hundreds of people, you should start posting some content.
Content is what defines you and let’s people know what sort of pics you post. It let’s them know whether or not they should follow you back. They decide whether your stuff is interesting enough to follow.
If you don’t have any pics posted yet, or you only have one or two images of your dog and cat, most people will pass and just not follow you back.
But if you build up a little posting history that shows the kind of images you’ll be posting in the future, people checking out your profile will be much more likely to follow you back if they are interested.
Show your stuff!
Getting more people to follow you back on Instagram is easy if you take the time to do things right. Having a good profile pic and posting some images before beginning to follow others, will help you attract targeted followers who want to learn more about you and what you do.
The more clearly you show your stuff – the more specific you are about who you help and what solutions you offer, the more targeted those followers will be!
