4 Social Media Tips to Grow Your Holistic Business

Using social media to grow your holistic businessAre you using social media to grow your holistic business?

Is it working for you? Or do you find yourself wasting a lot of time on those social sites? When it comes to growing your holistic business, to actually putting paying clients into your practice, social media is either the greatest thing since sliced bread, or it’s a total drain on your time and energy without giving you a lot in return. It all depends on what you are doing on those social sites that makes all the difference in the world. Here are four simple ways to give your social media efforts a boost so you can begin reaping the benefits of these powerful social sites.

1. Don’t be a bump on a log

The whole point of social media is to connect and share with people. It’s not enough to simply post on your profile every day – no matter what you are posting. Engage other people, ask questions, join conversations, be a participant! Like, comment, and share other people’s stuff too. The more you interact with others, the more exposure you receive and the more noticed you will become.

2. Use pictures and images

Social sites are intensely graphic oriented, and posts with pictures or images get tons more likes and shares than text posts do. Try to mix it up and post using a variety of different types of media. In a recent post I shared 3 online graphic tools that can help you jazz up your images. While we’re talking about images, always be sure to use a recent photo of yourself in all your profiles.

3. Be a real person

Businesses don’t have conversations with people. People have conversations with people. I see this all the time on Facebook. I get tons of ‘friend’ requests from people hiding behind a business name. Don’t hide. Be yourself! A friend request from XYZ company gets a quick reject from me, but a friend request from Jane Doe, owner of XYZ company or who works at XYZ company would be accepted.

4. Send them to your website

The ultimate goal of your social media use is to drive people back to YOUR website where they can learn more about you and what you do. Your website is where you have control and is where you are able to offer them things like your ezine or newsletter. So be sure to include links to relevant and useful information that is on your site in a good portion of your postings. Just don’t overdo it or you risk coming across as too sales-y and pushy.

If you are an active participant in your social media circles, you provide a good mix of useful content, and you consistently drive people back to your own website, you will find the time and energy you focus on social media will be well worth it, as more and more people, some of whom will become clients, are exposed to you and choose to follow you in one way or another. As you attract more and more people, and as they share you with their friends, your growth multiplies over and over. Social media, done right, can, and should be, a big part of your overall plan to grow your holistic business.

Are You Playing BIG? Or Hiding in Your Own Shadow?

Play big!Are you playing BIG in your practice? Or are you hiding behind your own shadow and letting your success and happiness slip away from you? Here’s a truth about the holistic field that will positively impact the way you look at your work and help you take your practice to the level you imagine when you dream about your future.

That truth is this: To get to the next level in your practice you have to play bigger than you are playing now.

The biggest challenge you will face when trying to grow your business isn’t all the techie stuff. It’s not your marketing, it’s not your website, or your logo, or your branding. It’s not even about your skills. The biggest challenge that you, as a holistic practitioner, will have is getting out of your own way and learning to play BIG.

Playing BIG might scare you. It did me at first. You might associate playing big with doing things you don’t want to do, or becoming someone that you don’t want to become. But deep down inside, you know that in order to grow you are going to have to change some of the things that you are doing now.

This creates a dilemma. On one hand, you want to grow. You want to attract more clients that you can help with your unique gifts and skills. You want to make more money, and you definitely want your practice to provide you more freedom and time to spend as you wish. But on the other hand, playing big seems like it would take more work and leave you with less time in the end.

I call this ‘hiding in your own shadow’. You see, I know that the light burning within you wants to be free to grow and shine brightly. When you hold that light in, when you hold yourself back from being the most exquisite version of yourself, you are essentially hiding in the shadow of what you could become.

Step out of your shadow. I believe that you came here, not only with a purpose, but also with the means to express that purpose. Each of us does. You were drawn to this work because of that purpose and it is only when you step up and embrace your light fully that you will experience the peace and happiness that you are looking for. Because more than the clients, more than the money, it is the happiness and fulfillment that you are really looking for.

Your assignment: Start today! As funny as it sounds, playing BIG can start by making small changes. Decide that today you will be a little bolder, a little braver, and a little more willing to play a bigger game. Those small changes have a miraculous way of snowballing into massive results that will transform not only your practice, but your life!
